Yes you can
I have a 1994 Chevy suburban. the reverse went out in it. I have a friend that has a 1996 suburban transmission. will a 1996 trans work in a 94? To answer the title question; No, the 4L60E(1/2 ton) or 4L80E(3/4 ton) out of a 1996 is electronically shifted, while the 700R4 in the 1992 is vacuum controlled. The 1992 does not have the computer required to operate the 4L60E/4L80E. To answer the question at the top of the answer box: Yes, you can replace your transmission with your friend's, providing that both Suburbans are the same tonnage and drive. For example, both would need to be 1/2-ton, 2WD (C1500), or both would have to be 3/4-ton, 4WD (K2500). The 1500 (C&K) used the 4L60E, while the 2500 (C&K) use the 4L80E. The output shaft in the K-series is shorter to accommodate the transfer case, and will not work in a C-series.
YES they are the same transmissions as long as the 94 had the 4L80E in it too. 1/2 tons used the 4L60E in them and the 3/4 tons used the 4L80E
It's a 4L80E, I have the same truck. The 4L60E was not in the "K" 1500 NEW ANSWER: Your truch has the 4L60E in it because it is a 1/2 ton. They put the 4L80E transmissions in the 3/4 tons and heaver trucks. NOT 1/2 TONS.
My 93 has a 4l60e. A 95 should have the same. It look like a 700r4 but it computer controlled.
It should. They both had the same manual and automatic options for those years - NV3500 (manual) and 4L60E (auto) for the S10, Blazer, Trailblazer, and 1500; NV4500 (manual) and 4L80E (automatic) for the 2500 and 3500. Note that swapping out a 4L80E in place of a 4L60E is NOT a simple "plug and play" swap.
NO. The bellhousings are made different on the 1996 and 97 transmissions.
Yes it will as long as it is the same transmission. 1/2 ton trucks have the 4L60E Trans. in them. The 3/4 tons have the 4L80E in them.
a 1500 has either a 4l60e or a 700r they both look the same look under the pass.side of the truck if you see a round green electrical plug in the middle of the tranny towards the top its a 4l60e,now if its a 2500 or 3500 i think they came with a 700 or 4l80e
No. The 1/2 ton trucks will have a 4L60E transmission in it. The 3/4 ton trucks have a 4L80E trans. in them. The 4-wheel drive transmission are different then the 2-wheel drives.
Yes they are the same as long as there both out of a 1/2 ton. Or there both out of a 3/4 ton. 1/2 tons had the 4L60E transmission and the 3/4 tons had the 4L80E in them.
No it will not. The 2000 transmission housing has been redesigned and the 1996 transmission is not even close to being the same. But yet there both called a 4L60E. You will have to use a LATE 1999 to date transmission to fit that 2000 model.
