I have a 1994 Chevy Suburban. the reverse went out in it. I have a friend that has a 1996 suburban transmission. will a 1996 trans work in a 94?
To answer the title question; No, the 4L60E(1/2 ton) or 4L80E(3/4 ton) out of a 1996 is electronically shifted, while the 700R4 in the 1992 is vacuum controlled. The 1992 does not have the computer required to operate the 4L60E/4L80E.
To answer the question at the top of the answer box: Yes, you can replace your transmission with your friend's, providing that both Suburbans are the same tonnage and drive. For example, both would need to be 1/2-ton, 2WD (C1500), or both would have to be 3/4-ton, 4WD (K2500). The 1500 (C&K) used the 4L60E, while the 2500 (C&K) use the 4L80E. The output shaft in the K-series is shorter to accommodate the transfer case, and will not work in a C-series.
You can check your automatic transmission fluid in your 1992 Chevy Cavalier with the transmission dipstick. The dipstick will have marks that indicate whether it is full or low one quart.
That would be the 4L80E automatic transmission.
it is a 700r4
When you will be sustaining a speed of over 45 mph
no GM changed the cases
how do you replace a CV joint on a 1992 Chevy pickup?
It has a model 700R4 transmission and a transfer case is bolted on the back to make it into a 4x4 transmission.
That year model did not have a modulator valve on the transmission.
It uses DEXTRON III automatic trans fluid.
700R4 from 1986 to 1992 should work
Any 4L60E transmission, 1993 and up. The mechanical 4L60 and 700R4 from 1992 and earlier will not work.
No it will not interchange. You need an Accord transmission from a 1990-1993.
