Coatis (proper name) are native to southern Texas and considered a threatened species in that state. They can be held as pets only under certain conditions. Having had about 5-6 myself, mostly held for a wildlife rehabilitation organization, I can notrecommend them as pets.
From what I know, you have to call the government and they give you all the information you need to get an exotic pet license inthe state of Texas.
