Best Answer

Not necessarily: There are also other types of "groups of stars".

The International Astronomical Union has divided the sky, and all of the fairly bright stars, into 88 recognized constellations. A grouping that isn't one of the official 88 constellations is an "asterism". For example, one of the common groupings that we talk about all the time is the Big Dipper, which is NOT a constellation! The official constellation is Ursa Major, the Great Bear; the central part of Ursa Major contains the 8 "Big Dipper" stars, and many others as well.
