This question is vague at best.

Carburettors are old technology; imprecise due to their analogue nature and vulnerable to fluctuation of provided mixture unless tuned and balanced often. Carburettors also have no means of measuring air density or engine speed and therefore a true stoichiometric mix is rarely obtained in normal operational parameters. Fuel injection is a far, far more efficient method of fuel delivery on the internal combustion engine. That being said, carburettors are easily tuned by hand and do not require expensive engine management systems to adjust, and if power is the only objective, then a well tuned bunch of side-draft carburettors can often come close to fuel injection and independent throttle-bodies.

The carburettors on the Honda's SOHC 'D' engine are two Keihin side-drafts (at least they are here in the UK!), they are fairly similar to SU carburettors in design and function rather well in my experience. Unfortunately as they stand in stock form they are NOT as effective at delivering the same power or fuel economy as Honda's multi-point injection used on the VTEC engines; this is due to the computer control of the multi-point injection and the fact there is one injector per-cylinder, whereas there is only two carburettors for 4 cylinders in the case of the carburettor engine which provides an uneven charge mix per cylinder.

Finally, the choice of fueling will make far less of a difference in terms of power than the addition of variable valve timing will in this case. Honda's VTEC system allows for increased valve lead, duration and overlap at higher engine speeds, meaning it has a far superior power output than the non-vtec versions.

To answer your question in a nutshell - No.

Is there a custom camshaft for a D15B to get more power out of it?

your best bet to get more power than a d15 is to engine swap. a b18, b16, or a k20 are the most readily available. youll probably end up spending less on a b18 swap than upgrading the cams on a d15

What engines can you use in place of a D15Z4 without changing wiring ECU etc?

You can use any d15 series motor as long as it is not vtec. But also it isn't to expensive to switch to a d15b vtec motor you just need vtec ecu and wiring harness that can be found for about $100 on eBay. I switched my car from d15 non-vtec to d15b vtec for about $650 including the price of the motor.

Is Honda d15z8 3 stage?

no, d15z8 is vtec-e, which means below 2.5rpm and 3rpm in 5th gear engines goes in 12valves mode, then after these rpm or full throttle below these rpm it goes to normal 16 valves mode and works like non vtec engine and nothing similar like "vtec just kicked in". so basicaly it has no third stage (wild mode) that has d15b. sorry i just need to correct this answer above... d15z8 engine does have the wild mode.... it kicks in around 5400 rpm, it also has economy mode below 2500-3000rpm but its not 3stage vtec, the economy light comes on at low revs that's all... the valve timing changes at 5400rpm. since 16v is more efficient at high revs and 12v is better at lower revs, vtec kicks in just when a 12v engine would peak and a 16v engine would begin to get lively, giving u the best of both worlds
