A Shetland pony is a very small pony and will quickly be out grown by an 11 year old, so unless you have other very young children who could ride it, or teach it to pull a cart, then I would suggest moving up to a small horse or large pony.

Can a 13 year old girl that is around 114 pounds and about 5'2 - 5'3 ride a shetland pony?

Well, you could try, but it wouldn't make much sense, considering that the provided height and weight are too much for a Shetland Pony.

Grey is the most common colour of Connemara ponies; however bays, browns and duns are also very common. Chestnuts and roans are the least common colourings. Originally, they were characterised by a dun colouring with a black dorsal stripe and black points.

Can a nine year old girl ride a shetland pony?

Yes you can ride a Shetland pony, but i would sugest that you learn how to ride properly before trying to takle a Sheltland, as they can get quite tempermental, and tend to buck their riders off. Do not expect that just because the pony is small that it will be easy to ride, they are just as hard to ride as regular horses. Also it depends on how heavy this 15 year old girl is, if she is 100-150 lb it would work but not overly heavy as you could injure the pony.

What is the best pony breed for a 9 year old?

There are several factors that will determine what pony/horse to choose for a child. The size of the child, her riding skill level, temperment. Ponies can sometimes be difficult. There is a breed called 'Quarter Pony'. These are registered Quarter Horses that are under 14.2 HH. Quarter horses have wonderful temperments and they usually love children. This would be my first pick. The next would be the Welsh, or a Welsh cross-breed. The Welsh is a nice size and usually has a good temperment and are versatile.

When did a Staffy last win best of breed at Crufts?

A Staffordshire Bull Terrier wins Best of Breed every year. Best of Breed is the Best dog from each breed, so there will always be one from the Staffy breed. This year (2011) a red Staffordshire Bull Terrier came third in Best in Group but a Staffy has never won Best in Show.

Do Shetland ponies copy what other animals do For example if they are raised with dogs do they act like dogs if they are raised by horses do they act like horses?

No, they do not exactly act the same. They act as their own breed. Though there was one shetland pony who grew up with dogs and he fetched sticks, played with the other dogs and rolled over to have his tummy tickled. In a way Shetlands can act the same as dogs, but only a bit ANSWER 2 Shetland ponies are very much like two year humans. Their favorite concepts are "no" and "mine". They are notorioulsy stubborn. They LOVE attention in any form. However, no matter what their behavior, a shetland is still a horse. The pony will still eat hay, and roll in the dirt to shed hair and keep flies away. Shetlands need their hooves trimmed regularly and if they over-eat new grass, they tend to founder. So even if they gain attention and can distract their master from a task by behaving like a dog, they may adopt whatever behavior works for them. However, they still have very "horsey" behaviors.

How old can you get a pony?

It all depends on what breed the pony is, where it is kept and so on, the oldest pony to have lived was 56 year old and died in May 2007. Answer2: The horse mentioned in the above answer was named Shayne, he was a Iris draught / Thoroughbred cross and therefore was not a pony, as Pony is a height designation only. That being said Ponies tend to live as long or longer than full sized horses. You can ride a pony of almost any age provided they are sound and healthy.
