On a motorcycle, they have after market side plate mounts and vertical mounts. Depending on what state (refer to your State Manual) you are in, maybe be legal/illegal. On my motorcyle, i have a after market vertical side plate mount, which is legal in the state of CT. Some other states, prohibit any vertical license plates.Call the DMV or State Police in your state for more information about motorcycles or find it on line.
Yes a side mounted licence plate is legal in the state of Georgia. The only stipulations are that it is mounted horizontally and is illuminated. The vertical mounted plates( the ones you see in the parts magazines) are not.

Oregon only states that it should be in plain view and easily read by the public. ORS 803.540 Section 1a and 1c. It is not stated that it should be viewed "Horizontal" like some states specify. Looks to be legal
