No.

Virtual memory is a file stored on the disk and managed by the operating system software. As needed the operating system copies blocks of internal memory out to this file to free internal memory and copies blocks from this file to internal memory when a program needs it again. To assist the operating system in this task the computer has to have virtual memory management hardware and interrupts.

All of the hardware that is involved directly in the operation of virtual memory is part of the computer, not the harddisk.

Where is Virtual memory kept?

Virtual Memory is kept in a RAM chip inside a computer and is described as "volatile" i.e it will disappear when a computer is switched off, you also will find it inside graphics cards (the more it has, the more complex graphics it can process.) Many windows and some Unix systems also use a small portion of the hard drive as virtual memory, though you can set limits on this or remove it entirely.

What is the differencebetween on-chip and off-chip memory?

On-chip memory is a memory that resides on microcontroller itself. e.g RAM. It may be one of the Internal RAM or Special Function Register (SFR). Off-chip memory is external ROM or EPROM.

How do you install memory in a laptop?

To install laptop memory, you will need to first consult the instruction manual. Afterwards, you can buy the memory chip, open up the laptop and then place the memory chip inside.

Advantage of virtual memory?

Virtual Memory can extend the memory available to programs when the chip-type memory is limited. Windows prefers to have Virtual memory, a lot of games are written to use more virtual memory in an attempt to save you RAM.

What is L1 cache?

Fast access memory which is inside the actual CPU chip.

What do you mean by off-chip memory in microcontroller?

The memory that is use externally when microcontroller works in expanded mode for special cases .

What is a flash chip?

Its the intergrated circuit inside the flash memory stick that stores the files.

Is cache memory necessary in motherboard?

Cache memory is not on the motherboard, it is inside the microprocessor chip so that it is as close as possible to the CPU itself.

What type of memory must have its data restored on a regular basis?

The memory inside of a DRAM chip must have its data restored on a regular basis. This is known as memory refresh.

The 64-bit version of windows xp run on Intel itanium chip and supports up to what gb of physical memory and up to what tb of virtual memory?

How much space could you allocate for unlimited RAM?

RAM (Random Access Memory) is a physical chip that is inserted into your motherboard inside your computer. Allocating 'space' on your computer to act as RAM is called 'virtual memory'. Virtual memory can be increased as long as you have room on your hard drive to allocate. Physical memory can be increased by replacing the chips on your motherboard. Quite simply, to allocate an unlimited amount of space for RAM would only depend on how large your hard drive(s) were or how many slots on your motherboard existed.

Why do you call usb a flash drive?

USB is not a flash drive. A flash drive is so called because it uses flash memory that retains data with no power.
