Wedding dresses are available in different colors such as red, silver, icy blue and green. But white is still the first choice for most brides. White and shades of white are regarded as the most auspicious color for a wedding as white signifies purity, innocence and chastity. Though some brides do go for colorful wedding gowns, the traditional white bridal dress continues to be the most popular.

Apart from being the auspicious color, a white wedding gown looks more elegant and sophisticated than a colored one. And when it is adorned with beautiful crystals, it makes the bride look resplendent.

It depends on what colors you have chosen for your wedding (usually people choose two wedding colors). Have your maid of honor wear your other wedding color.Another suggestion is your maid of honor can wear pink.

What is a couture wedding dress?

A couture wedding gown is a loosely used term these days. But typically it means that the gown is made within a couture house as opposed to a larger factory with many other designer's gowns are made. And it typically is made on shore in North America or in Europe as opposed to China where gowns are more mass produced. http://www.ubrides.com/home.php?cat=769&catexp=769

Does a wedding dress have to be white?

No, not at all. While I wouldn't recommend a dark or bold color, it has become quite common for wedding dresses to be colors other than white. Some popular colors are off white, pale pink, champangne, a pale, soft, buttery yellow (called "candlelight"), and other soft colors.Another option is to have the dress in the (soft) color of your choice, then have a white lace overlay over the colored fabric. You could choose the dress color based on the colors of your wedding/reception, bridal attendants dress color, and the wedding cake, which would bring all the colors together beautifully. It's a misconception that the color white for a wedding dress is a symbol of purity (virginity). It's actually the blush of the veil (the part that covers the face) that symbolizes purity and innocence.

Do women wear white at weddings?

Only the bride should wear white if it's a white wedding. However, the bride can marry in whatever color she so chooses and there is no set fashion for color for the bride at a wedding. Queen Victoria of England started the traditional white wedding dress. From the earliest ages, it was known that white is the most fitting hue, whatever may be the material. It is an emblem of the purity and innocence of girlhood. White has long been accepted as the traditional color of the wedding dress, but wedding gowns were not always white. The marriage of Queen Victoria to her cousin Albert of Saxe- Coburg in 1840 has had more influence on weddings than any other. Queen Victoria put the wheels in motion by marrying in white. Though brides continued to wed in gowns of different colors, white was now set as the color of choice for weddings and has continued ever since.
