Take a closer look. Your coin's minting date is on the edge - it was made in 2007. And like ALL current US $1 coins it's made of brass and is only worth $1.

With the price of gold around $1400 an ounce a real gold coin that large would be worth around $300. No person or government would be foolish enough to put it in circulation for $1.
