Most of the time it travels faster at the point it takes off than at the moment it touches down. During take-off, the airplane uses as much power to ensure it has extra airspeed so it can handle any emergency, such as an engine failure. Whereas during landing, the only concern is to maintain sufficient altitude to reach the airport. Theoretically, the airplane is designed to fly at a minium airpseed and it doesn't matter what it is doing. During Take-off, the aircraft is heavier than it is during landing. Generally, during landing the airplanes uses more flaps to slow it down. For the comfort of the passengers, the pilot likes to land as gently as possible. Faster when taking off, slower when landing. Generally speaking, when taking off, an aircraft weighs more, is more performance limited (i.e., needs to be able to clear obstacles during climb out), and also needs additional speed in the event of emergency. During landings, the aircraft is lighter and needs to slow down as much as possible (through the use of flaps, etc.) to shorten the landing distance.

How much airplane fuel is used each hour in the United States of America.?

depends on the aircraft. a airplane takes off and an airplane lands every 5 seconds in the US, so they would have to fuel up when they are nearly empty, (captains choice how much they fill). a very hard question, but i do know that it takes 1000+ US $ to fill up a modern B737.

Why was the airplane named the airplane?

An airplane was named an airplane because it fly's in the AIR and the came up with the word plane. IDK im going out on a limb here but i believe plane comes from geometry, where you have the plane of a surface. the surface in reference is the ground. a flat surface in which it takes off from.

How does a airplane work?

An airplane is a machine used to fly. An airplane uses it's engine to produce thrust to move the aircraft. When an airplane takes off the engine(s) push the aircraft faster and faster. At a certain speed there is enough air flowing over the wings at a high enough speed for the wings to produce lift. Lift pushes the aircraft into the air and keeps it there. When an airplane goes to slow or is pointed at too great and angle, it's stalls, and falls out of the sky. Airplanes are used to carry people and goods over great distances faster and cheaper than many other forms of transport.

An example of When gravity slows down a moving object?

When an airplane takes off, it is going against the gravitational pull. This in turn slows down the plane.
