Because it absorbs and retains heat very well, and can therefore contribute to the greenhouse effect, which is basically global warming.

It is not a pollutant as such. Without carbon dioxide at roughly the levels we are at, the planet would be very dead. Carbon Dioxide makes up only 39 molecules out of every 100,000 we have. This is, up from 33 molecules for every 100,000 that many believe was the norm about 150 years ago.

Some people believe, and there is a great deal of research going on, that carbon dioxide could cause additional warming of the planet. This additional carbon dioxide would be above what is needed to warm the planet and could be misconstrued as a pollutant.

Answer:Many materials that are released into the air are called air pollution even though all or part of their impact is made when the material is absorbed by other materials (water, soil, plants, animals). In the case of carbon dioxide the increased levels of CO2 are absorbed, in part, by the sea, This forms carbonic acids which lower the sea's pH levels. These increased pH levels keep ions such as calcium from being used in shell building by mollusks, change the breeding success of sea life and impair coral reefs. These impacts seriously effect the ocean ecology. Answer:In 2007 the US Supreme Court directed the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to "decide whether carbon dioxide either caused or contributed to air pollution in ways that endangered public health." The court stated that greenhouse gases "fit within the Clean Air Act definition of air pollutants". The EPA found that carbon dioxide and the other greenhouse gases threaten the public health and welfare of the American people.

You know about the role of co2 in plants. Plants utilise CO2 from the atmosphere for photosynthesis, thereby decreasing the amount of CO2 in the air.CO2,however,is continuosly released in the atmosphere through respirationof living organisms, and also because of human activities.

Because of human activities ,there is an increase in the amount of CO2

in the air.Excess of co2 in the air, thus, makes it a pollutant.

Carbon dioxide is a normal gas that every animal on this planet exhales, yet it is toxic to breath for animals. Plants take it in and give out oxygen that we breath in as well, creating a cycle.

Now think of this: if you place a human in a 100% oxygen environment for far too long the body will begin to get damaged from an overdose of oxygen, causing lung damage and even blindness. Adding tons of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is similar to that but another kicker is that it is a greenhouse gas, or it makes the planet hotter by making heat that typically leaves the atmosphere stay here.

What we exhale is not the problem, it's what our vehicles exhaust.

Just like drinking water can be deadly if you have too much of it, carbon dioxide has negative effects if present in too high a quantity. It is supposed to be less than 2% of the atmosphere, and for most of the millions of years of the history of Life it has been. But in the last 100 years, coinciding with the Industrial Revolution, the actions of Man burning fuels has dumped more carbon dioxide back in the atmosphere than plants and geology managed to sequester away in 250,000,000 years. The atmosphere, and thus the ecosphere, cannot handle that rapid an influx, so that constitutes pollution. It's a matter of degree.

How serious is it? Every degree of global temperature increase due to the extra CO2 in the atmosphere means a 20% drop in the yield of the world rice crop, so Asia starves if global warming continues. That 's just one example. Every credible scientist in the world believes in global warming; only a handful of Republican talk show hosts and Fox News think otherwise - and you know what a dismal track record they have about reality.

Yes, the Supreme Court in the US decided that carbon dioxide (CO2) was a pollutant. As a result of this the US was able to regulate vehicle emissions as a way to partly limit the effects of global warming.

because it traps the solar heat from escaping it from the outer space so the heat is trapped in the earth so it causes global warming so plant many trees

What pollutant has an affect on the increase of global temperature?

The pollutant causing global warming is carbon dioxide (CO2). Emitted by the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity, this greenhouse gas is causing global warming and climate change.

Is sun spot cycles or carbon dioxide in the atmosphere more important for global warming?
