What is the area of carlsbad caverns?

Carlsbad Caverns has an explored length of 48 kilometers. Its largest room, "Big Room," has a floor space of 3.2 hectares. Within the park is Lechuguilla Cave, completely unknown to anyone until 1986, but now recognized as one of the longest caves in the world. Almost 200 kilometers of this cave are known to exist, and exploration is still ongoing.

How do you Visit Carlsbad caverns as a claustrophobic?

People who are mildly claustrophobic may still enjoy a visit to Carlsbad Cavern. The main cave is huge with ceiling reaching over 250 feet. If the claustrophobic person feels OK in an enclosed space, like a shopping mall or theater, then he or she should do OK in Carlsbad Cavern. (There is an elevator ride to exit the cave, but it lasts only one minute.)

Who first explored Carlsbad Caverns?

Jim White is credited as being one of the first explorers of Carlsbad Cavern. Others made claims that they too explored the famous cave, but little evidence exists to prove or disprove these claims. Jim White spent much of his life working in the cave, as a guano miner and later as a park guide, so his are the stories still told today. He is the iconic early cave explorer.

When were the carslbad caverns formed?

Sometime within the last 11 million years according to what I could find rapidly on-line from here, in an on-line science magazine-once I'd waded through the exasperating crap Ask throws at you to reach anything useful. That 11Mya (Million years ago) mark is of regional tectonic upliftso is the boundary. The Big Room level of Carlsbad Caverns was dated radio-isotopically to just about 4Mya. If any of Carlsbad still takes a stream then that "active" series will still be developing. Ref: AAAS/Science web-site. What I found was simply an abstract. You'd have to register (subscribe?) to learn more. Or find other publications.

Does beach terrace motel still exist in long beach ca?

When were the carlsbad caverns created?

Caves don't just appear as single, complete entities as you imply. They take many tens or hundreds of thousands, possibly a few million, years to form; and different series of passages and chambers within the system form at different times and take different times to form. The oldest parts of Carlsbad Caverns date back at least 4 million years, with their "inception" stretchign back before that; and if any of its passages still carry streams, those passages are said to be "active" and are still being formed. Caves don't really stop developing as the abandoned or "fossil" passages of a cave are in a state of slow decay by percolating ground-water attacking the limestone above the passages. This does NOT as sometimes thought, form chambers etc, but brings about occasional collapses when not forming stalactites and stalagmites.

What kind of animals you see at carlsbad caverns?

If you mean within the cave, it is particularly famous for its bat colonies, but it will no doubt also hold many creatures you probably won't see as a visitor to the show-cave because they are not immediately noticeable. These will be assorted little invertebrates living on the floor, in various nooks and crannies and in any pools or streams in the cave. No doubt cave-biologists have studied, and may still be studying, the cave's fauna formally.
