Carlsban Caverns is open all year except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. The Visitor Center is open 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the summer and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during fall, winter and spring. The last elevator out of the cave is 6:30 p.m. during the summer and 4:30 p.m. during fall, winter and spring.

That 11Mya (Million years ago) mark is of regional tectonic upliftso is the boundary. The Big Room level of Carlsbad Caverns was dated radio-isotopically to just about 4Mya. Caves don't just appear as single, complete entities as you imply. They take many tens or hundreds of thousands, possibly a few million, years to form; and different series of passages and chambers within the system form at different times and take different times to form. The oldest parts of Carlsbad Caverns date back at least 4 million years, with their "inception" stretchign back before that; and if any of its passages still carry streams, those passages are said to be "active" and are still being formed. Caves don't really stop developing as the abandoned or "fossil" passages of a cave are in a state of slow decay by percolating ground-water attacking the limestone above the passages. This does NOT as sometimes thought, form chambers etc, but brings about occasional collapses when not forming stalactites and stalagmites.

If you mean within the cave, it is particularly famous for its bat colonies, but it will no doubt also hold many creatures you probably won't see as a visitor to the show-cave because they are not immediately noticeable. These will be assorted little invertebrates living on the floor, in various nooks and crannies and in any pools or streams in the cave. No doubt cave-biologists have studied, and may still be studying, the cave's fauna formally.

yes because i was kicked in Lost River Caverns on my feild trip i got kicked in my ankel and it still hurts
