No doing this will kill the good bacteria in the tank and end up killing all your fish guaranteed. Good bacteria grows on your gravel and in your filter that breaks down the harmful waste products of your fish into a harmless substance. This bacteria keeps your fish alive. You also never do full water changes because it also kills the bacteria.

The answer is NO. you may not add faucet water to a fish tank. As far as chlorine water goes for a fish tank, a fish tank's water should have as little chlorine as possible. Chlorine is a toxic chemical, not only to fish but ourselves as well. The only time you can add faucet water (Which in fact contains chlorine) is when there is no fish in the tank. You have to add water conditioner to the water and let it run for approximately 24-48 hours before adding fish. Although I do not recommend adding fish before letting a tank establish for about one or two weeks. Water needs time to establish the proper PH to be safe for fish or anything else. Remember to check your tank's PH regularly and adjust it as necessary.

Can brook trout survive in chlorinated tap water?

Chlorinated water is dangerous to fish. If you want to keep them in a tank, the water has to set for 24 hours before placing fish in it. You can purchase the chemical at any pet store that will remove chlorine instantly. Trout also have to have cold water to survive. That makes it difficult to keep them as pets.

Bottled water is missing many of the minerals that fish need for their bodies.
