No right answer here, I been a fan of the everything book series when raising my dog and found that a balanced diet (like humans) is always the best. the commercial products all have the right mix of ingredients.

Dry puppy food has more calories in it, so I prefer to feed a good name brand of dry puppy food. You can also mix the canned puppy food in with the dry puppy food.

Can puppies 3 months old just eat dry puppy food and not eat can food?

Yes! just make sure that it is quality food, and not the cheap supermarket kind. Switch him/her over slowly by adding a little dry food to the canned, then increase the dry food and decrease the canned food over the period of a week until it is all dry food.

When do puppies eat real food?

Puppies can start on soaked dry puppy food at around 3 weeks of age. Just soak the puppy food in some warm water and let soften to just a mush. Then you can add a little Esbilac, warm water or canned milk (never use cow's milk). diluted one part canned milk to one part water. At around 4 weeks you can soak the puppy food with just warm water and then eventually they can eat the dry puppy food just dry & crunchy. What puppy food can a 3 week old eat as all the food packets say from 2 months onwards?

You can feed a 3 week old puppy, dry puppy food that has been soaked in warm water until it is very soft & mushy, then add some canned milk (1 part water to 1 part canned milk) to the mushy puppy food until it is a bit on the watery side. The pup should dive right in and make a big mess lapping it up. Make sure you are using a good name brand of puppy food, not some cheap generic puppy food. As the pup gets older, you can make the food less watery until you are feeding dry puppy food only. You only need to add the canned milk for about a week then stop with that. Don't ever use regular cow's milk as can cause diarrhea.

How long does a dogs milk stay in?

Your dog will produce milk as long as there is a demand put on her by the puppies. The pups should stay with their Mom 8 weeks but should be weaned at around 3-4 weeks of age. You should introduce softened dry puppy food mixed with canned milk (diluted 1 part water to 1 part canned milk). Do not feed regular cow's milk as will cause diarrhea. You can stop adding the canned milk at about 4 weeks and just feed the softened mushy dry puppy food soaked in warm water and then feed it drier as the pups age. By 5-6 weeks they should be crunching on dry puppy food. Mom needs to not be nursing them at all, so her milk will dry up. Note: Mom dog should be fed a good name brand puppy food while nursing her pups and pups should be put on the same good name brand dry puppy food too. Don't feed cheap generic dry puppy food.

What kind of puppy food to start puppies on?

If you're planning on buying an expensive brand such as royal canin then it depends what breed your puppy is. There is 'junior 33' and 'junior 32'. Junior 33 is for breeds that grow up to 5kg and junior 32 is for puppies from 5kg and upwards i think ? :L even if you do get one of these it will say on the packet. or you can get a cheaper food designed for all puppies such as pedigree puppy dry food. I would recommend dry food over canned because the puppies poops come out wet and runny with canned. maybe you could carry on with the food the breeder used ?

Is dry dog food bad for a Yorkshire Terrier puppy?

Your best bet is to ask your vet or a Yorkie breeder. For most small breeds you begin giving puppy food at around 7-8 weeks. Take the dry food and soak it in hot water. Make it oatmeal consistency Until they are able to chew dry food, continue wetting the food a bit. That will do for the next 3 weeks, when you can gradually add hard food in that oat mealy dog food
