My son is in the process of signing up with the US Army. He got a letter from MEPS saying he was permanently disqualified from US Military Service due to his Duane Syndrome. This, we were told, was to be expected from MEPS because they didn't have it listed anywhere in their list of conditions, basically, never heard of it. Needless to say this devastated my son, as the Army was something he planned on his whole life!

After speaking with his recruiter he found out that a waiver from his doctor was sent to higher ups along with his medical records and they are going to have him see an impartial eye doctor to make sure there was so funny business with our doctor.

Today he is on his way to MEPS for his physical and all to determine that there is nothing else wrong with him. Then he will meet with the other eye doctor.

I will post the results of everything as soon as we hear anything more. I have heard about and from many people who have had this condition and still were able to join the military!!

***Just got news yesterday that after passing everything with MEPS with flying colors that my son, after a waiver from his eye doctor and further consideration, has been approved for Military service!! He will be reporting back to MEPS tomorrow and be sworn into the ARMY on Friday, July 9!!!!!! HOOAH!! So have faith!! It is possible!!
