Not mine , I was doing about 70 when my belt broke . It took me 4 hours and $20 to know for sure boy how aggravating not knowing if my valves were bent or not. The good news is that my Volvo with 345,000 miles fired right up when all work was complete. 24mpg and no payments.
The above answer may be true for that owner but I do not see how it is possible. The 1986 Volvo 740 GLE 4 cylinder is an interference engine and as such if the cam belt breaks you will almost certainly have internal engine damage. The belt should be changed every 50,000 miles.
No.
If the timing belt snaps on a 2.5 Transit diesel, a secondary issue may be valve damage. When the timing of the engine is off, it throws the internal components out of whack.
On an interference engine the pistons will hit the valves and cause severe internal engine damage.
If the timing belt on a 1.6 Astra breaks, it can damage the engine. It is more likely to damage the engine if it is a timing chain, though. A timing chain is made of metal and a timing belt is made of a heavy duty rubber.
A belt. Possibly your serpentine, maybe your fan belt.. or like many cars it may all be the same thing.. most cars have one belt now. Hopefully not your timing belt if you have one.. may want to check that. If it has a timing belt and an interference engine, if that belt snaps, your whole engine will be ruined.
An engine can lock up on a number of reasons but mainly due to mechanical failure for example if the Timing belt snaps... etc...
It all depends on if you have an interference engine or not, if you do valves could hit pistons if running at the time
YES !!! it is a close tolerance engin . if the timing belt snaps in drive mode the valves will bend .
How can you tell it's an interference engine or If it's a non-interference engine, or if your valves are in the right place when the belt snaps? Also how can I remove the crank shaft pully?
This is an interference engine. If the timing belt snaps it will cause a loads of problems: bent valves, damaged pistons, damaged cam shaft. Replace the belt every 60,000 miles.
yes,the engine is a full interference engine, translation : if timing belts snaps while running severe damage usually results to pistons, camshaft and valves. $2,500.00 this is kia # they can tell you if it is a non interference or not 1 800 333 4542
Its a safe engine so no damage will be done..just fit another belt and tensioner and away you go.. This is a non interference engine so if the timing belt snaps, the only damage is the belt itself. This means that you can fit a new belt, time the engine and continue
