Diatomaceous earth is very dusty so just like all dust, you should not inhale a bunch of it. A large amount of dust in the lungs is never a good thing, no matter what the source is. Food grade DE is not dangerous in itself, just dusty. When using it inside your home, apply it close to the floor or item it is intended to cover so you do not create more dust than necessary.
