---Jump off a building and test this theory.

---The above suggestion is idiotic and close-minded. What would you suggest if you had to prove that there was oxygen in the atmosphere? To breathe through your nose/mouth to test this theory? Just because an object falls towards the Earth does not mean that it proves gravity. You can hold an experiment in outerspace, throw a tennis ball to what you perceive as 'downward' without the influence from any planets, solar systems, black holes, and even stars. Would you tell me then that the tennis ball is falling/floating towards something because of gravity? If you tell me that it's due to force, jumping off of a building also projects force. Sure, you may be looking at some traits of gravity, but it doesn't mean it absolutely exists if the same conditions were met in a different environment. Ultimately, scientists are still baffled at how gravity works. Mathematicians and physicists have created formulas that projects the behavior of gravity, but still have been reluctant to produce any physical evidence that gravity exists. It has ONLY been proven that things are AFFECTED by "this" in which we call "gravity." The problem with science is that it relies ONLY on physical evidence. Sure there are many things that cannot be explained and through many experiments they've come to conclude such things as laws while other subjects are merely labeled as impossible and "crazy," such that as the paranormal. That's why it's called the Law of Gravity due to some known traits and not the Theory of Gravity. I hate it when people suggest the obvious, of course you'll fall off the building and hit the floor, thus experiencing gravity. Did you also know that if you dive into the ocean without an oxygen tank that you can drown because you're experiencing the breathing in of water instead of oxygen? Stop it with the "I-Know-It-All" egocentric attitude. This person asked an honest question, and you needn't answer it with a condescending remark like "Jump into the flames to prove the theory of fire." As a conclusion, gravity has NOT been proven, in terms of science wanting to find PHYSICAL evidence of existence before it becomes "real." So in a sense, you can say "In the name of science, gravity is fake because it has no physical existence." When it comes to reincarnation, the scientists will wait for a day to see the elderly and the deceased from the Roman Empire to WWII run to pregnant women, enter her through the naval and manifest themselves in their new lives. What kind of common sense is that? There are some things that cannot be seen, cannot be proven (to an extent) and yet we understand that it is there.
--The above answer immediately labeled the first as idiotic and closed-minded. I'll label my precursor's answer as bloated and hostile. As far as I know it hasn't been proven in whatever "proper" way someone considers something proven, but I believe it has much more merit than the paranormal, reincarnation, or "God" for that matter. I also believe that we prove it on a daily basis. For me it is proven, and I say that in the same manner as when someone claims that God exists and that it is proven... if I must.

No

.

No because gravity is a force. A force can act on matter, but is not matter.

.

Maybe because a hypothesized particle, the graviton, is believed to be one of the particles of the quantum field theory. According to this theory, the graviton, if it exists, is a massless particle responsible for all gravity in the universe. If the graviton particle does exist, then by being made up of one of the fundamental particles, gravity could be characterized as matter.
