Is high oil pressure good?
You may have a restriction in the oil system, which will starve the engine of oil.
When the oil pressure guage is in the high position, it means you have good oil pressure. As your car warms up, the pressure should drop a little. The guage will usually drop at stop signs and stop lights and then go up as you accelerate. If your guage goes to high and stays there, you could have a problem with your sending unit or you could have too much oil in the car.
Oil pumps are pretty durable but Id say if you are having a low oil pressure issue then definately. But a good high volume (NOT HIGH PRESSURE!!) oil pump is a huge improvement over stock. PLUS they are cheap. Id say its worth the peace of mind seeins how you are right there and it only takes one bolt.
Possible clogged oil galley, filter, defective oil pressure gage, or the use of an oil that is the incorrect weight. Replace the oil filter with a Purolator filter and change the oil. Install 5W-30 oil. If the pressure is still high then you need to have the oil pressure tested with an accurate test gage, to see exactly what it is.
If your oil pressure is remaining that high, I suggest having it checked with a manual pressure guage to see if the reading is accurate. It sounds to me as if you might have a bad oil sending unit. After checking it manually you may be pleasantly surprised to find that a new oil pressure sending unit will solve your problem. good luck.
How do you replace a fitting from a high pressure oil pump that is leaking oil in a 2001 ford F350 diesel truck?
The first time, I thought it was the oil pressure sending unit, so I replaced it. New sending unit was still reading 80 psi (maxed out). Last night, the engine ground to a halt, despite good maintenance with Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I think the high pressure indicates blockage in the oil system, causing oil starvation somewhere in the engine. I think mine was in the lifter area, because they kept getting louder before the…

It is normal for the oil pressure to be high when the engine is first started and is cold. It should settle at around 40 psi once the engine reaches full operating temperature. If it does not, then change the oil and filter and make sure you are using the correct weight oil, which is more than likely 5w30. Use a good oil filter such as Purolator, Wix, or Motorcraft in your Ford. Make sure…
There are several pressure switches in a vehicle. The engine has an oil pressure switch that sends a signal to the oil pressure gauge oil or light for you to monitor. Some oil pressure switches can shut down the fuel pump if no oil pressure is detected. The AC system has both a low pressure and a high pressure switch to protect the AC system from self destruction.
high oil pressure on a 350 can be caused by a number of things: * bad oil pressure sending unit * a restriction somewhere in the oil circulation system * using an oil with too high of thickness (weight) knowing how old the motor is should narrow this down greatly. if changing the oil in the motor has frequently been deliquent, the cause of high oil pressure may be carbon build-up inside one of the…
Defective oil pressure sending unit, burnt out oil pressure warning light, defective oil pump, or defective wiring. You will see the oil light when you turn on the ignition. If it is good check the wiring at the oil pressure sending unit. It it is good just replace the unit. If you have no oil pressure your engine will be making lots of noise and overheat.
