Horses are used for dog food along with many other animals. It used to be that wild mustangs could be rounded up and slaughtered for dog food. This practice became illegal through the activities of Wild Horse Annie and other animal rights activists who fail to understand just how much damage these feral beasts do to the local environment.

Horses are wonderful animals. If you have a big pasture and a barn or shed to protect them from the cold, a horse can provide hours of enjoyment on trails and back country roads. But "wild" horses are not wild. They are feral. They are NOT native to the United States. Native North American horses went extinct thousands of years ago. The breeds released into the wild by the Spaniards hundreds of years ago trample native vegetation, foul springs and erode creek banks. They threaten native species, and are a nuisance that should be eliminated.

They get used for food or they can make electricity for light from horses and also glue. Horse meat is an expensive delicacy in Japan and Italy, along with a few other places. Slaughter is cruel and selfish, especially because the horse isn't always fully dead.

What cold cuts has horse meat combined?

In the US horse meat is not used in commercially available cold cuts. While there may be slaughter plants or individuals who make horse meat into a variety of products this is little likelihood that an American citizen would ever be accidentally fed horse meat.

What people do to horses if thy don't sell?

People have several options if they are trying to sell horses and they can't.1. Donate; They can donate the horse to research facilities, or even companies that make horse feed as a 'test subject'.2. Slaughter; Slaughter is an option in some countries, but not all. The seller will likely only recoup a tiny amount of money in comparison to the cost of breeding/ training / raising the horse. 3. Lease; The owner can lease out the horse to another person, allowing them to get relief from the cost of owning it, yet still maintain control of how the horse is kept.4. Euthanasia; The kindest option is often having the horse put to sleep, this is often done to prevent 'pet' or family horses from going to slaughter, or winding up in a bad home. It is inexpensive and the body can be disposed of in multiple ways.

Is horse meat in cat food?

Horses in the USA were used for dog food until the Horse Protection act was founded. Then the industry turned to the 'scrap meat' left over by the slaughter of commonly used food animals like Chicken, pigs, and cows. Horses are no longer a suitable source of dog food due to the chemicals used to keep them healthy. These chemicals stay in the horses systems for long periods of time and if consumed by animals or people can make them sick or kill them. Over seas however it is fairly common for horses to be used for human consumption, especially in France and certain Asian countries.

Do slaughter houses get there chickens from the egg industry?

No. Hens that are "too old to lay anymore" would make very poor market quality chicken. Slaughterhouses that process chickens for the food industry get their chickens from farms where the chickens are raised specifically for the meat market. "Overage" layers that are sent to slaughter wind up in cat food, etc.
