Answer I might also add that wanting to become prosperous is something most all our forefathers prayed for. That is to become prosperous mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially. The problem comes when one out-weighs the other. If you have your mind set on money only, it will take precedent over your spiritual growth, and also the responsibility to your God, family, friends, and the whole of society. I believe Jesus was not really condemning the man for being rich. He was showing him where his priorities were. The disciples said to Jesus - in reference to His statement, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than it is for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven" - "Then who can be saved!" So what does that tells us? Jesus said, "With man these things are impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Paraphrasing). He was now showing them all the critical need for a Savior, because we all fall short of the glory of God. If it's not money, it could be sexual issues, or power issues, or pride, or lying, or stealing in its many forms etc. The issue being, none of us can enter the Kingdom of Heaven by what we do or don't do. ∙ 9y agoNo, it is not a sin to be rich. But greedy people will not inherit the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). Plus, it is difficult for wealthy people to enter the Holy City, as clarified by Christ Jesus Himself:
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:23, New International Version)
How hard is it for a wealthy person to go to heaven? Let us return once more to the Holy Scriptures. Here in the book of Matthew, the chapter is 19, and the verse is 24:
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24, New International Version)
