The color that purple and red make when mixed together depends on the proportions of each color. Generally, mixing equal parts of purple and red will result in a darker shade of purple, closer to maroon or burgundy.

Lavender is considered to be a light shade of purple. But lavender is actually also red and blue mixed together or maybe purple mixed with white. It can be considered a shade of blue too.
Purple mixed with black makes a shade of purple. If only a little black is used it will be clearly identified as a shade. If only a little purple is used, it will seem to be almost black.
