Is it alright to ask signs from god?

How is your relationship with GOD? What kind of signs are you looking for? The bible states that the greatest of faith according to Christ are those who see not, but still believe. But he also said: "Seek and ye shall find." So, if you're looking for GOD and ask for a sign that your search is acknowledged, or you have some serious personal matter that needs to be resolved, I'd say definitely yes, ask away, repeatedly. But are you ready to believe that sign when it's given is the better question. Often no sign is a sign that you need to think for yourself, and rely on the knowledge you already have. Just remember, GOD isn't a genie, bound to do anyone's beckoning, it's quite the opposite. We are to be at HIS beck, HIS call, to do HIS will, not ours, because only HE knows what's truly right or wrong. Maybe instead of us receiving a sign from him in times of need, it is we who need to do the showing.

Signs tempt god and that's not a good thing to do.

Signs preclude faith and Christianity is a faith walk.

Signs are Old Testament: pillar of fire, cloud at night, parting of the sea; etc. Jesus came healing lepers and the blind and raising the dead and still Gods people did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. Jesus said: "there shall be no signs given to this adulterous generation..". (Matthew 12:39)and (John 4:48)"Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe". God had finished with that dispensation or covenant. Now the sacrifice of christ was to abolish all sin and not by animal sacrifices anymore and salvation was the way to closeness with god not by priestly intervention on specific calendar events or by trekking to shrines. Things were about to change and drastically.

But to ask for a sign shows lack of faith in god unless hes asking you to carry that jawbone toward that 1000 men, (of course if you heard god tell u take that jawbone you better do it lol) but just to pay the rent.. forget it and especially forget it if the sign is to increase your faith, you'll be just as more likely to feel so left out in the cold for a uncertain span of time :0) God wouldn't even help my old cat die peacefully, instead the cat had a seizure on Saturday night! boy was i mad at God for ruining Sunday. :0)

I might suggest that u ask god to put His love inside your heart, when he does it wont be a sign but it will truly be a blessing and its a faith booster the next time you feel you need a sign.

It really says there will be no signs in the Bible? That must be specifically for unbelievers or not be for all generations. Why would we have been given the prophecy of Revelations and the signs to seek and be ready for?

Christ isn't as interactive as I'd like him to be (I'd like him to give me a briefing daily), but there have been times where it has been indisputable that the Holy Spirit was speaking or acting directly and exactly to me about things that pertained specifically to me. I've had signs. HUGE GIGANTIC BILLBOARD type signs. Unusual or phenomenal events that acknowleged my plight has been noticed and I should wait upon the LORD. I've been directed to pray and rely on faith more, and have always been rewarded for obeying.

I think Christ speaks out to all who have and will try to reach for him. And even if one doesn't specifically reach for Christ (yet), I have to say GOD or his angels interact with us all the time. I could be mistaken, but I doubt that I am.

PRAY FOR FAITH! ASK TO BE GRANTED FAITH. Religion be of man, Faith of GOD.

Maybe i misinterpreted when you asked "is it alright to ASK god for signs". but i doubt i did. ASKing is not good. God giving us the Prophetic book of revelations is good but not a sign, how many times has it been misinterpreted, 100 or more. A sign i presumed to be; "Lord, I'll quit smoking if you turn my lawn purple," is not good.

Yes god speaks to US all but that isn't in the question "is it alright to ask god for signs". We have all had times where it seemed like or we read into a situation and thanked god for answering but these are not signs, they are the expectable rewards for adhering to the scriptures. When we do wrong we get billboard signs - convictions from the holy spirit that are indisputable - but this is not the type of sign i thought you were referring to. Lord if i do this and you think its wrong, convict me okay? This is not a sign we can expect this every time until we have rebelled or ignored god enough times that we have become, for lack of better word, immune to the promptings of Gods spirit. Maybe read my post again and let it sink in this time. god bless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------First off, I didn't ask the question. I merely gave my best answer to it. Perhaps you're right that it may be sinful to ask for signs...but I've done it, and have received them.

Here's just one example.

When I was less faithful (I think I've always believed) I used to get myself in some serious jams and was rare sorry for it too. I've rarely asked for signs frivolously. But once, my younger daughter ran away, I was terribly frightened as I called and looked everywhere (even in very dangerous areas around dangerous people and circumstances) I called all over the state and there was no word from any one, I even got her put on the milk cartons and nothing. I had nothing, the police said they had nothing, even her friends were calling to see if there was any word. I got down on my knees and begged the LORD many times to give me a sign she was alright. Over time I became so distraught I even fell to my knees crying to heaven in the streets (once in the middle of a cross walk in broad daylight at rush hour) of Anchorage when I carried the fliers to tie on every pole I could, under every door, on every bulletin board. I made THOUSANDS of them!!!!!! Sent hundreds to Fairbanks too.

The stangest thing (yet not too strange for Alaska where we live) happened. We live in Anchorage, though it's a port, Eagles aren't commonly seen here. But after the street incident. Along came an eagle that followed me every where for about 2 months. Every time it landed near me it seemed to try to tell me to look NORTH. (We had come down to live in Anchorage from Fairbanks, which of course is NE of Anchorage) and when it would take off, it also flew NORTH, and often came from the NORTH. So I kept calling Fairbanks. No word.

But the Eagle kept coming back every few days. I tried giving it food, fresh fish even. It shunned all of my offerings. But every time I saw it, it definitely indicated NORTH. I finally asked the Eagle directly. "Have you seen my daughter?" I kid you not, it swooped it's head down in a nod, and indicated NORTH. I asked several times, every time the same response. Finally I prayed again. Explained that even if the Eagle was sent from GOD I could not follow it as my car was beyond repair, and I could never keep up with it on foot. That if my daughter was still alive, would GOD compell her to call home. The Eagle took off again. A few days later, a friend of mine from Fairbanks called, said Sheilah, there's someone here who'd like to talk to you. It was my daughter. The Eagle never returned.

When my daughter returned, some time later, I related the strange tale about the Eagle. She and her friends who she'd stayed with during this period, listened with their eyes getting wider and wider. Apparently, GOD's Eagle had been hanging around them quite a bit...and had even attacked a man who tried to get them into his car. But they definitely felt as though the Eagle was watching them. Over the same period of time to the day. The Eagle stopped stalking my girl the day she called.

I'd call that a sign from GOD. A Huge Durigable GOODYEAR Blimp sized sign from merciful Jesus Christ himself, as that's who I prayed to for such a favor. Miracles happen to this day and tomorrow, even if they're prayed for with ignorance. And sometimes, I can't back it biblically, but based on my life facts and eye witness, if it's important enough, I think it's okay to ask GOD for a sign. If it isn't okay, HE won't grant it. HE'S GOD, that's HIS perogotive. Should I even face punishment for asking, I will endure it with Thanksgiving daily for the term of that punishment for all the kindness HE has returned to this sinner...I just had to know...some times a person just has to ask.

I think the LORD is so merciful he granted me what I asked even if it was wrong of me to ask.... (god is not a hypocrite, he is unalterable. He partakes in NO wrongs for any reason because he is a holy god incapable of error or counsil from anyone. You flatter yourself)

once again... an eagle is not a sign. Im glad for your mother Mary bleeding statue event but I hardly call that a sign. Gee your a few quadludes short of an angel showing up. You said to ask for a sign, a sign is a great miraculous event that you describe to happen the way you want it to happen for confirmation that cannot be construed by any other means than that of a sign, not some eagle flying around. God may have HELPED you but this event you describe is not some 'sign' of god. You did not ask god to send you an eagle therefore this is not a sign just some freakish independent solitary event that coincidently was perceived by you to be a "sign". Gods helps, and yahoo for you, lucky you are, indeed blessed above all the other people god did not help for their missing human. I once had a frog lead me to my lost cat.

I check everything in the word of god and nowhere do i see any scripture that says, "ask for a sign from god to confirm your way, cast lots, divine the stars or conjure the dead or turn my lawn purple or keep this traffic light green, if you want me to... whatever.

As i mentioned before this is a new dispensation, a faith walk, we have all seen movings of the holy spirit but they are not signs either. Speaking in tongues may be a sign, etc. But nowhere do i see god advocating his people (who are supposed to walk by faith) to ask for signs. If this gets out the charismatic Pentecostals will have another movement, 'the asking god for signs movement'.

The scriptural pattern is

(Matthew 6:10) to pray "Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven".

(1 Thessalonians 5:18)" give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Please stick to the subject the way it is presented. For your clarity on what a sign is check gideons fleece that would be the proper definition of asking for a sign and forget about asking for signs because then your faith will be in signs and not in god i hope you can see that. Asking for signs especially if its important or big is sin: Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

(now you're going to pray that god give ME a sign! is there no end to your devilry? I wont hold my breath okay.) im just tryin to help. I know this is tough love but try to accept that you have to walk by faith and not by signs. I love Alaska, many say its beautiful there although all i have ever seen is pictures. I don't like the cold or snow. I wish i were in belieze actually.
