It's "bad" to get any piercing with a gun. But, it's a quite practiced technique in Wal*Marts and local malls now a days, but I got mine done with a gun, and have had no problem stretching them or anything. Just keep them clean, and rotate them twice a day. You shouldn't have any problems at all.

How do you know if your ear cartilage is cracked after having it pierced with a gun?

The best way to tell if your ear cartilage is cracked after having it pierced, is to feel it. If you feel a gap or if it is very sore weeks after, it might be cracked.

An ear piercing gun sounds like a stapler. I had my ears pierced at Claire's recently and they are great at it. It's over in 5 seconds. its a small plastic gun and they position it at the ear lobe/cartilage and click its over!

Can anything bad happen when you get the top of your ear pierced?

Well if it's done by a piercing gun lots can go wrong. If it's done by a professional body piercer the problems are much less. Piercing guns are not to be used to pierce anything other than ear lobes so that being said in the hands of a pro following the aftercare you should have no issues.

Is it a bad thing to have knots on the back of newly pierced ears?

Well that's the joy of getting ear cartilage pierced with a piercing gun, they studs are not designed nor intended to be used in the cartilage, however there is always some moron willing to do what they are not supposed to do with a piercing gun. The lumps on the backs of your ears are called cauliflower ear" this occurs when the skin or dermal layer is torn away from the cartilage and not reattached to the cartilage, the void fills with fluid which crystallizes and forms the lumps you now have. Sorry to break it to you.

Where can you get your upper ear done with a gun?

Any body piercing shop or tattoo shop that offers piercing services or Claire's. But, I have to say, it is preferable to get your cartilage pierced with a needle because a gun can shatter your cartilage.

Why is it so bad to get the top of your ear pierced with a gun?

Its not bad to get your ear pierced with a gun, all my mates have got it done and some adults i know have got it done and they have had it done since they wer young and they got it done with a gun and there is nothing wrong with it! In most countries the use of piercing guns for anything other than ear lobes is a direct violation of health regulations. Piercing guns are not designed nor intended to pierce the cartilage because due to the manner in which the piercing stud tears the skin and punctures the cartilage it doesn't allow room for the skin to heal around the punctured cartilage, leaving the cartilage available for infiltration by bacteria and infection.

What could cause the cartilage of your ear to hurt?

Okay so if you have your cartilage pierced, some things could be it's infected because when you slept, your ear rubbed against whatever you were sleeping on and that could be it or you could have not cleaned it well with whatever you chose or whatever your piercer told you to clean it with. Another could be that the piercer didn't sterilize the needle or gun he/she pierced it with. If it's not pierced then you could have bumped it against something and now its sore.

After several months of having the upper ear cartilage pierced it still hurts. Is there supposed to be a small dent where the stud has been?

Pain and discomfort are part and parcel of getting the cartilage pierced with a piercing gun. The piercing gun user knows that they are not allowed to pierce ear cartilage with a piercing gun. Properly done cartilage piercing done by a professional body piercer would have been healed by now. The swelling is due to the stud backing being too close to the skin and not allowing the piercing to drain or breath properly.
