For their cage, you should put down a bed of clean sawdust ( well, thin wood chips) and perhaps cover half the cage with fresh straw. Yo might want to put down some hay for them to nibble on too. Blankets and towels should really only be used when holding them ( if you are worried they are going to pee on you) or if you have washed them and are dabbing them dry ( but only wash them with shampoo given to you by the vet for flees or a skin condition- otherwise there is no need).
