Persoanlly, I think brandy is better. But it does vary and depend on the recipe.

Whiskey is grain based distilled alcohol aged in wood, brandy is fruit [grape] as in congac based aged in wood,most often oak. More important, whishky gets you soushed fashter. :-)

with enough alcohol, you can store Christmas pud for as long as you like in a cold cupboard or larder. just make sure that when you make the pud you keep feeding with brandy so the fruit is preserved.
Brandy can be made from any fruit. Classically, grapes are used in all Cognac, Armagnac and most other brandies. Calvados is made from apples.
