How do you replace trunk lid springs on a 107 body 1983 mercedes 380sl?
the fatter/taller one the springs might be different as well so use the shorter springs on the fatter/taller retainers if the springs are different. which retainer you put on a valve doesnt really matter to much. last week i put all the intake retainers on the exhaust valves and vice versa and my instructor told me that it doesn't matter
you need to compress the spring with a valve spring compressor tool, and then remove the valve keepers, and retainer.
Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel.Release parking brake.Remove brake drum. If drum is difficult to remove, screw in bolt to pull drum out.Remove retainer, return springs, adjuster and shoes.Remove retainer ring with suitable tool, then separate toggle lever and brake shoe.Reverse procedure to install.Adjust brakes and parking brake.
Just open the engine hood, and look behind either headlight that is out, and remove the cover behind the headlight, should probably be a turning cover, turn cover counter clockwise to remove, then un-plug connection for bulb, and remove light bulb. Light bulb will probably be held in by 2 metal spring clips, that are hooked in, just un-hook springs to remove bulb.
Check Vacuum hoses or springs?
Unscrew the phillips head bolt at the bottom of the headlight. Remove the chrome surround. Then you can either undo the clip on the wires and take the unit to a work bench or you can do it in place. Remove the 3 springs then lift the bulb out of the headlight shell. Pull the bulb out of the socket and reverse the procedure.
Take another look at the assembly. You do not need to release the springs in order to replace the bulbs.
First, unplug it from the back. Then remove the screws in the chrome ring. You will see a ring around the outer lip of the headlight. This will have screws on it. 3, I think. Anyway, remove these. Now, you will see screws with springs by them. These are for aiming purposes, only.
Drain oil from primary. Remove pedals. Unscrew primary cover. Take off retainer cover piece evenly. Take off retainer clip. Pull the clutch out using the bolts and there you have it! Remember the order they came out and make sure you install them correctly. Doesnt hurt, actually you will need a second set of hands to push the retainer cover back on due to the extremely strong springs underneath if you do not have a pulley puller.
UNLOCK THE HOOD AT THE HINGES AND FLIP THE HOOD ALL THE WAY UP, THEN THE SPRINGS WILL COME RIGHT OUT
