UNLOCK THE HOOD AT THE HINGES AND FLIP THE HOOD ALL THE WAY UP, THEN THE SPRINGS WILL COME RIGHT OUT

Jack up the passenger side of the car. Disconnect the battery. Disconnect all wires to the starter. Remove both bolts. Using BOTH hands, jiggle the starter out of the hole. Replacement is a reversal of the removal.
I didn't know 83's had a lock. Open the trunk, and look behind the coverings toward the back of the fuel door. You can unlock it from there. My 84 300sd didn't have this feature, but both of my 89's do.
The leak may be from clogged Sunroof drains. Others have said that you can use compressed air to clear the lines to have them drain properly.
