If you are Catholic that is probably what you should do.
____
"Fairness" seems arbitrary in this case... you might think it is unfair if you do not believe in Catholicism, and feel that the child would be brainwashed... but it would be equally unfair or promoting brainwashing (from other perspectives) to bring up a child with any other belief system, including Atheism. Parents can bring up their children to go to church and explain why they believe as they do, but at some point, all individuals will get their own testimony of religion or they will fall away. To me, that is fair. We learn what our parents and teachers have to say, and then we choose to accept or reject it.
Roman Catholic AnswerA child must have at least one parent who is practicing their religion and willing to bring the child up in the faith to be baptized. A priest would normally refuse baptism if there is no certainly whatsoever that the child will be brought up in the faith. It would not be fair to the child.
