Yes they are healthy for you, they allow to help put on muscle and repair muscles when your not working out and sleeping, having to much will make you urine it out, it does not damage kidneys, there are no known side effects. What they do is, make your viens wider allowing more blood to pump through which burns calories. It is 50% as effective as diet and excersise alone.

Carbs and proteins, when not needed, are stored in the body as fat. Proteins, unlike carbs and lipids, contain nitrogen; this must be cleared out before they can be turned into fat, and that job falls to the kidneys. Excess protein, as in the case of most people who eat relatively well and still (for whatever crazy reason) drink protein shakes, puts a huge burden on the kidneys - expect to be on dialysis by age 30 or so.

Protein shakes will do absolutely nothing for you if you do not exercise, and you can add weight gain to the list of bad stuff (which already includes kidney failure) if you chug them.
Protein shake aren't bad in anyway if they are used only to supplement your daily protein intake. Protein is simply used to build and repair muscle after intense exercise, along with many other important biological processes.

Not really. Any typical western diet tends to provide enough protein, perhaps even more than enough. A can of salmon and a 16 oz glass of milk provides almost an entire day's worth of protein for a 2000 calorie diet. Only vegetarians or vegans would even need to consider whether or not their protein needs were being met. If you're working out very heavily and need a fast source of protein after a workout, a shake might be alright. But you can still get whatever protein you need from regular foods. Consuming more protein than you really need means you're taking in excess calories, which if unused, will be stored as fat.
