Muslims do celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In the Qu'ran, Allah has said that blessed be the day you were born about Prophet (PBUH) and other prophets (PBUT). So why shouldn't you celebrate a day which is a blessing to the whole of humankind? The majority of Muslims do celebrate Milad-un-nabi.

Celebrating Eid Meelad is not prohibited in Islam. But The holy Prophet (SAW) advises the Muslims to celebrate Eid by offering Prayer, thanks giving to Allah Karim and be kind and forgiving to others. Taking out processions, beating of drums, and making Hulla Gulla is against the teachings of the holy prophet (SAW).
