Women defintely have a higher normal body fat percentage then men, because they have female hormones responsible for fat distribution to areas that makes them feminine. But It's not clear if it is any harder for them to lose weight given the same degree of obesity (vs. medically normal weight) as a man.
There are several reasons. The more you weigh, the more your body needs to sustain itself, hence the more calories you use. Also, the more you weigh, the more calories you probably take in on a daily basis, making it easier to cut calories from the total without endangering your health. The closer you are to your target weight, the greater the amount of exercise you need to wear off those final pounds. It's important to be patient; if you continue to watch your food intake and exercise several times a week, eventually the pounds (or kilograms) will come off. Sometimes, though, we have to sit back and accept ourselves at the size and shape we are and not worry about our weight. There is no ideal body shape or size.
There are several reasons.

2. They may be clinicaly unfit and may need to lose weight in order to live longer lives.
3. They may want to look good for a love intrest.
4. Becoming fit and losing weight could also be a hobby or part of there occupation e.g. model.

Menopause is because Estrogen & Testosterone is plummeting. The body senses that as a threat and decides to crank out a nasty Hormone called cortisol, which thinks the body is starving so it stores FAT, below the belt in the back, above the belt in the front and about along the Bras strap on the upper back... how we doing does that sound about right??
Hormone Replacement therapy adds Testosterone to the system, that shuts down the cortisol & the fat storage cycle stops , but the fat remains till it is dieted or exercised away.
If you don't shut down the cycle the cortisol keeps storing fat 24/7 & that gets ugly!
because they don't get off the couch and work out, and they eat junk food. That's the problem with America
