It depends where you are. Ecuador is divided into three strips - low along the coast, high in the Andes mountains, and low in the Amazon. In the low coast, the terrible heat that you would expect from the equator is tempered by the cold currents in the Pacific Ocean. In the Andes, you choose your temperature by how high you go. The higher you go, the colder it gets. Above 1500 metres it is too cold for malaria mosquitoes. In the Amazon region, you have the worst of ecuadorian heat and humidity and mosquitoes and malaria, and biting flies, and ticks, and parasitic worms that you would expect in the most tropical parts of the world.
