It's not technically "law" but it is absolutely necessary! i.e. The Kennel Club won't register the breeder's puppies if they can't prove that the parents have been hip scored. This is to prevent people breeding poor quality dogs which are even more susceptible to hip dysplasia. (You're probably aware that this is an all too common ailment in Golden Retrievers)

Are pedigree and akc registration the same thing?

No they are not. A "Pedigree" is a record of the lineage behind the dog, such as parents names, AKC numbers, OFA numbers, then grandparents, then great grand parents, etc. It depends on if you get a 3 or 5 generation pedigree. A breeder normally gives you a pedigree of your pup's background upon purchase or you can order a 3 or 5 generation Pedigree on your dog from the AKC. AKC records are the individual record of each purebred dog and has to be registered with the AKC. You can only get this if the parents were both registered with the American Kennel Club, AKC and the litter registration of their litter is registered with the AKC. The AKC will then issue out individual AKC papers for each pup in the litter. Hope that helps to explain the difference.

How do you get a five or six generation poodle pedigree?

Pedigrees (records of family history) cannot be purchased or sold. If your Dog is Kennel Club registered then it should come with it's pedigree and Kennel Club certificate. Dog's must be registered with the Kennel Club by the breeder and both of the Dog's parents must have also been Kennel Club registered to be able to register the puppies. If you have lost your Dog's pedigree then for a fee you can usually order a new one as most Kennel Club organisations keep records of registered Dogs.

How can you get papers for a mixed puppy?

check the kennel club the dog is registered in. www.akc.org is the American Kennel Club's website. If the dog's from that kennel club, you follow the links to the pedigrees. You should be able to order it if you have the registration information for your dog. If you have not been provided AKC registration papers for your puppy from the breeder or you have acquired an older dog you believe to be a purebred you can register him/her with an AKC Indefinite Listing Privelege (ILP) registration. The dog must be neutered or spayed for this but can compete in AKC competitons other than conformation showing. You can find requirements and forms at AKC.org.

How can someone find good puppy sales?

If you go to a breeder ask to see the parents pedigree as well as check out the parents and puppies health before purchasing a puppy. If in doubt seek your local vet or dogs trust for more information.

Where do you buy Full English Creme Golden Retriever puppies in southern California?

Usually a breeder advertising "English Creams" is a backyard breeder, and not a good person to buy a dog from. The GRCA even has a statement about the "rare white puppy". You need to make sure the parents are proven (show or working/field titles), have full AKC registration, have an extensive pedigree with champion lines, and have received good results on their health clearances/genetic testing (OFA for hips, elbows, cardio, CERF for eyes, and thyroid, etc.). The breeder should be a member of the breed club. The best thing to do would be to contact the GRCA (Golden Retriever Club of America) or a local Golden club for reputable breeder referral. Then contact the breeders they provide you with and ask them if they have any lighter colored pups or European imports.

What is the average price for a purebred labrador retriever?

Depends on the breeder. An okay breeder will charge $250-300. A great breeder will charge much more. If you are buying from a breeder, make sure the parents have hip, elbow, and eye certifications. Labradors are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia as well as blindness. Certified healthy parents will safe you a LOT of money down the road and are well worth the extra initial price of $450-500 or so. Another thing to consider would be whether the parents are papered (AKC, UKC, etc). That will also cost more.

Can you kc register a dogs puppies if they are younger than two?

If both parents are pedigree KC registered and there are no endorsements (the breeder can place an endorsement so the dog cannot be bred from) it should be possible to register puppies late (usually this is done when they are born) I think the Kennel Club charge £60 for late registration. Do you have all the relevant paperwork eg signature on stud form from the owner of the stud? Pedigrees reg no. for both parents?

Do you get paper if you mate a toy poodle with a mini poodle?

Hi No you cannot register the litter from these set of parents. To get the pedigree certificates, you must have a fully registered poodle who breeds with another fully registered poodle of the same size. For example, a miniature to a miniature, standard to standard etc.
