Is it legal for a 16 year old to date an 18 year old in the state of Indiana?
It is legal to date, there are no laws about what age you have to be to date in any state. There are laws about sexual activity depending on the state. In most places you have to be at least 16 to consent, if not 17 or 18.
Yes it is legal for an 18 year old to date a 15 year old in Indiana. There are no Indiana state laws prohibiting the pair from DATING (IE) going to movies, the mall, dancing, dinner, lunches, holding hands ect ect...... However There are Indiana state laws that do prohibit the pair from engaging in any type of sexual activity. Indiana Statutes § 35-42-4-3 § 35-52-4-9 * Dating is far different than sexual activity.
No. The legal age of consent is 16 in Indiana. State laws vary as to the degree of charge and punishment, but the 19 year old could face felony rape charges, jail time, fines, and a lifetime "sex offender" label, making it hard to find emloyment and housing. Besides the legal risk, there are serious psychological and emotional risks in involving a child in an adult relationship.
Dating is fine, there are no laws against that but sex is out of the question. A minor is only allowed to have sex when they have reached the age of consent in their state or country or if there are close in age exemptions to the law. Otherwise it would be statutory rape if they have sex with an adult.
