i think the UK should legalise cannabis because, then instead of transporting it over all the time, the UK could grow its own, and less citezens would suffer schizophrenia, and depression ect.
In the UK, cannabis is classified as a 'Class B' drug- that is, it's not seen as being as dangerous or as serious a drug as heroin, cocaine, LSD or 'magic mushrooms', but is regarded as being more risky than some drugs that people are given by prescription for medical uses (such as the sleeping pill Temazepam, the tranquilizer Diazepam, and so on). It ranks alongside amphetamines and codeine.
Possession of cannabis and cultivation of cannabis plants is illegal, but simple possession of the drug or a single cannabis plant will not land you in serious trouble, especially if you can prove that it is only for your own personal use and not to supply to somebody else. You will just get a police caution, and the drug or plant will be confiscated and destroyed.
If, however, you are actually DEALING in cannabis - selling it to others for widespread use- then the penalties are much harsher, ranging from a heavy fine of several thousand pounds to a prison sentence of up to 7 years, depending upon how much of the drug you own and the extent of your 'buisness activities'. It also depends upon the purity of the drug- knowingly dealing in cannabis resin that also contains other drugs such as cocaine, or is contaminated with poisonous substances like faeces or industrial waste, will land you the harder end of a judicial sentence.
Cannabis remains illegal to possess, grow, distribute, sell or grow in the UK. Being caught with cannabis comes with a maximum of five years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both.
It should never be legalised ! Driving under the influence of drugs is just as dangerous as being drunk at the wheel !
Cannabis has been reclassified to Class B, the same as amphetamines. 5 years for possession, 14 for supply of manufacture, and/or an unlimited fine in both cases.

Medical cannabis is legal in the UK and is treated in the same way a substance such a codeine is. It is extremely expensive, and tightly regulated, only being available to people with a legitimate illness such as a chemotherapy patient or a person who has persistent nausea. The form of cannabis is synthetic, and actual drug trails with the real thing are still underway.
