There's a problem here: the two of you probably came into this relationship with very different ideas about sex. Couples counseling could help, and in this case I strongly recommend it.
Incidentally, it is possible that your penis is large enough to have been painful for your wife. If this is the case, consider using your finger instead for a while, or letting her "be on top" so she controls the amount of penetration. But see a counselor anyway. It's a worthwhile investment if you want the next thirty or forty years to be fun!
