i don't think it is normal,i had a knee problem for 4 straight months and i showed it to the doctors and they said i had to take a special therapy for it. so i had to excercise it one day a week. now finally it is better. you might have the same problem as me. if it just pained once, it's ok. but if this is going on for a long time, you might want to show someone.
For very flexible people,no for beginners yes. its all about the bone. beginners dont have flexible knees but flexible people do and it is fine for your knees to hurt. mine do when i do a middle split cause im good at the regular split so its perfectlly normal!
