Is it normal to have a dark red discharge after a lost tampon has been removed and antibiotics are started?

The dark red discharge may be blood left behind by the tampon which is now being allowed to flush out of your vagina. If you're taking antibiotics you should be fine, although you are at risk of developing a yeast infection when taking antibiotics which may effect discharge. If concerned then see your doctor again, it's a good idea to do this after the antibiotics too to ensure everything is okay.

∙ 14y agoToxic shock syndrome is a very dangerous condition caused by extended tampon insertion. If you have already seen your doctor, removed the tampon and started antibiotics, you should be ok. The discharge is not normal, but not unexpected. But if you get a fever, contact your doctor right away.
