From my experience of having three babies in the house, sleeping with, at the time, 5 cats. Yes. The majority of cats will keep a wide berth of a baby. Some may curl up with the baby while it sleeps, this is said to be a problem. If you are worried about it, create the cot/crib as a "no go zone".. Everytime you see your cat in it (if bub is or not) one squirt with a spray bottle will do. This doesn't hurt your cat and by doing this all the time the cat will keep clear of the babies bed which wets it. Be perdistant, if you don't have a water bottle handy, call the cats name angrilly and clap your hand. I know this may sound bad but it works. Animals use a fear and affection approach at dicipline. A mother cat will growl, spit, hiss and swat a baby kitten into doing as its told. So mimicking this action (without swatting) will not harm your cat. Immediately after they are out of the cot (after a "yelling" and spray) praise them. You are then rewarding the cat for leaving the cot when asked. If you are over 10 seconds late in rewarding the cat, he/she will not understand the training. Its not that they don't have an attention span, its more they have got over what happened.

introduce your cat slowly to the new member of the family. they should get used to them pretty fast, however some cats can lash out if the baby grabs their tail or fur. usually your cat will avoid the baby until it is old enough to treat the cat better.

It depends on the individual cat, and more on the owner. Cats have a tendancy to be curious (more than just a cliche), and will investigate anything new in their environment. They may injure a small infant without realizing what they are doing or even intending harm. Some cats can be very gentle, but no cat should be trusted alone with an infant.

There is a belief that the scent of the child or the milk fed to the child attracts cats. This is possible, but in no way negates the advice given above. Just be smart about it.

Generally speaking, the mother cat will not allow the father cat near the kittens.
