Febrile patients often have the sensation of being cold. Covering them with blankets is usually ok. A warm water bottle would probably be ok too, but one may not want to place it near the head/brain.

A patient up to 103°F should be relatively safe from secondary fever induced problems. Keeping the patient comfortable at lower fevers is best.

If the fever spikes above 105°F or so, it would be inadvisable to add additional heat, and one should consider methods to reduce the fever independent of other treatments.

Always consult a physician if you have specific treatment questions.

How is blood transfusion made?

A blood transfusion - is giving a patient a quantity of blood to replace any that's been lost though an accident or injury. A small sample of the patient's blood is analysed to determine the blood group & type. This is 'cross-matched' with blood of the same type stored at the hospital. A unit (or 'bag') of blood is hung above the patient from a metal stand, and a needle leading from the bag is inserted into a vein in the patient. A combination of gravity, and the patient's heartbeat drains the blood from the bag into the body. The bag is replaced when empty or the donation is stopped once the patient's blood pressure returns to normal.

What does the phrase Hold your water mean?

It was from back in the days of every household having an enema bag and the use of such bag. Mother would administer the enema and you would have to "Hold your water" for 10 minutes or so before releasing it in the toilet. This was very hard to do without some leaking out. "Hold your water" became synonymous with be patient and show control.

Why does the solution of water and sugar move up the straw in a tied baggie when put in water?

Osmotic pressure. The concentration in the bag is greater than outside the bag. Sugar molecules cannot pass thru the bag but water can. To try to create the same concentration inside and outside the bag water moves into the bag to dilute the solution inside the bag. This extra water now in the bag causes the liquid to move up the straw.
