It may. I have seen it done before; IF the engine RPM was moderate. If after adding the proper amount of oil, the engine is quiet and does not begin using oil, you may have lucked out.

Sounds like it is shifting as if there was a shift kit installed. Have it checked at a transmission shop before more damage occurs. Possible also that the mounts are broken.
