Yes. Virtual memory is used when there's not enough RAM in your system. It's just hard drive space that the PC sees as RAM. It is much much slower than RAM though. You could run out of memory if you are running enough programs that your use up all your RAM and your virtual memory is used up.

Virtual memory is hardware that the computer uses to load the operating system and run all of the programs. It is stated that the more memory that the computer has, the faster the programs will run.

How important is the virtual memory in our memory management?

Without virtual memory some computer programs wont be able to run. As the memory increases the computer may slow down its processes.

What is virtual memory on an Apple product?

The virtual memory on an Apple computer varies between machine and user. While virtual memory can be useful, it can also cause your computer to run more slowly. By default, other Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPod, do not use virtual memory.

Is it possible to run an application whose size is bigger than the RAM Capcity?

Yes we can run. The operating system does it by means of a mechanism called Virtual Memory. It shows THE FREE SPACE OF HARD DISK as main memory. So if the application size is greater than the size of free space of hard disk then it could not be run in that system. For further reading read Virtual Memory topic in any Computer architecture or organisation book.

What is virtual computer?

A virtual machine or virtual computer (we'll call them VMs for short) is a "software computer" that runs inside your real physical computer. There are several programs that can create and run these VMs.

How does random access memory affect the performance of your computer?

RAM is the virtual memory of your computer; the more RAM you have, the more programs you can run at one time. However, that is just a brief explanation.

What is another name for virtual memory?

Why cant you use all of your systems memory to run a virtual machine?

You can't use all of your system memory to run a virtual machine because then there wouldn't be enough memory for the Operating System that's running the virtual machine to function. For instance, if you have 4 GB of system memory total, and your operating system needs at least a quarter of that (1 GB) to function, then your virtual machine maximum memory would be 3 GB.

Advantage of virtual memory?

Virtual Memory can extend the memory available to programs when the chip-type memory is limited. Windows prefers to have Virtual memory, a lot of games are written to use more virtual memory in an attempt to save you RAM.

How might one run Mac on Windows?

It is possible to run the Macintosh OSX on a Microsoft Windows based computer. To do so, one will need to create a virtual environment using a program like VMWare, Boot Camp, or Virtual Box. It should be noted that while it is possible to make this system run on a Windows computer, doing so is likely in violation of the licensing agreement in the software.

Why can't we create virtual RAM just like a virtual disc?

We do. That is why systems with smaller amounts of memory can still run programs albeit slow. We make virtual memory on the hard drive.

Why is virtual memory used even when sufficient RAM is available?

Because there is no such thing as "sufficient RAM." You could have 128GB of RAM in your computer and eventually you are going to run a process that needs more RAM than you have. In the old days before virtual memory existed, your computer just crashed when that happened. These days, your machine just goes to disk.
