It IS possible. Tell us more-- does it crank over? Have you checked anything else?

Most often, low transmission fluid.
It may be your shock absorbers or the front sway bar.
Any problem with the car that affects its emissions will cause the light to come on and stay on until the problem has been fixed. (There are literally dozens of possible causes.)
We have a 1998 Intrigue and I can tell you why we were losing power and it was getting kinda' scary, although it would start right up again after I pulled over, put it in park and restarted it. We had an oil leak and it was dripping on to a sensor.

I am having the same problem. Brought it to an AC specialist and they told me it was my heating/AC panel switch that was going bad. The clutch would not stay engaged because the AC on/off switch was bad.
I was told by a buddy of mine who's a GM Master Tech that it's the Universal Joint in the axle. He said I'm better off just replacing the axle with a reman for a few dollars more.
I had this problem for 2 yrs before I found out that the PCV valve grommets were bad and had holes in there. I'm guessing that you are also burning alot of oil fast too. Check the pcv valve rubber fittings. Good luck
