The Bermuda Triangle (the area between the island of Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico) are affected heavily by sudden storms, due to its geographical location, forcing winds to travel through the narrow corridor between them and then be split when the winds hit the island, forcing them to fall back into the direction the came from, which can cause whirlpools and storms.

Thousands of people have "escaped" the triangle, because the storms are rarer than literature and folk tales actually make them out to be.
