No software is required to use Facetime on the iPhone 4. It is required that you be on a WiFi connection. Facetime can only be done from one iPhone 4 to another iPhone 4. If you are using Facetime on a jailbroken iPhone then it is possible to Facetime chat with out using a WiFi connection. Simply go into Cydia and search for a package called My3G. This app allows you to trick your iPhone into thinking is it on Wifi connection allowing for Facetime chat over a 3G connection. An alternative to using Facetime would be Skype. Skype can be downloaded in the Apple App Store. Skype is video chat that can be done from iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 or iPhone 4 to a computer or computer to computer.

Not to be annoying, but you need to check your grammar with these questions. I am guessing that you are wondering when plugging your phone into the computer, will it be connected to the Internet? You are not connected to the Internet through plugging the phone in. You are connected when you go on your phone into Settings>Wifi. Select the wifi your computer is connected to, type in the WEP Key if there is one, and you now have Internet and are not wasting your data.

No you do not need WIFI to use the iPhone. The iPhone works with either 3G or WIFI. Some apps require WiFi to download or run depending on their size. I find wifi works best though and is faster. YouTube videos are extreemly clear and crisp with wifi.
Why does the wifi work on your computer but not on your iphone?
I don't know but mine is doing the same thing it's so frustrating. my computer is using the Internet so i know there is wifi but it says there is no wifi on my phone. i wish someone would answer this stinking question. if you found out how please tell me!
