- It is called a 'housewarming party' to invite neighbors; friends and relatives to see your new home (not a rental) that you are both proud of and no, four months later is not too late. However, it would be extremely rude to ask for gifts. These events are about celebrating and giving love gifts, not I need or want some more stuff so let me register and have my friends and family feel obligated to buy it for me. If you are talking about renting then no, you should not have any function at all, but just have a plain party.
