Yes and no.. If they have a wireless, unprotected network, then yes. If you connect to their wireless network, if it's unprotected, and if their computers have network discovery or sharing turned on, you'd have access to whatever devices are on the network. Some folks leave the default Login/Password to their router on as well. More than once, I've been able to "steal" their router away simply by logging into their router and changing passwords and "hiding" their wireless signal. A nifty trick, however, not something you should probably do.
With a peer to peer network, in order to access computers resources, all systems must be turned on and running. If one system goes down so does the entire connection. Where as with a server based network the connection will be up and running all the time regardless of how many computers are on. A server based network may prove more conventional for a larger network and may prove more reliable.

If the two computers are on the same network, make sure the driver is installed on both computers (you can usually download it from the manufacturers website). connect it to one of the two and make sure that computer has printer sharing turned ON. Go on the other computer and go into network devices/printers, or go into Microsoft word and go file>print>find printer.
