this is a myth, cats will find their way home if they had a good home, if they were neglected, they will find themselves a better home, they do not have the same sense of loyalty as as dog. It is a good idea to never let your cat out unsupervised, they have a tendency to ram far an wide especially if they have not been spayed or neutered.

It is said that a cat always lands with his feet on the ground (not true, by the way), and it is said that when you drop a piece of buttered toast it always lands butter side down (not true either). So if you tied a piece of buttered toast butter side up to a cat, the cat would of course spin all the way down. It's a joke, not a superstition.
